['hiːθstʌbz], John Francis Alexander, englischer Lyriker und Kritiker, * London 9. 7. 1918. Seine Gedichte, v. a. »Wounded Thammuz« (1942), »A charm against the toothache« (1954) und »Artorius« (1970), sind von klassischer und christlicher Mythologie beeinflusst. Er trat auch mit Monographien über viktorianische Lyrik (»The darkling plain«, 1950) und über »Charles Williams« (1955), mit Gedichtanthologien englischer Lyriker sowie als Übersetzer (von Hafis und G. Leopardi) hervor.
